First Aid for Severe Trauma
(FAST)
The FAST Certification course is a 120-minute group course that covers acute traumatic injury protocols for students in High School and adults. We will use lecture, hands on activities and short video simulations to cover the topics needed to effectively respond to traumatic emergencies. The FAST course is a Certificate based course, and students will receive a FAST certificate, good for 2 years.
Acquiring the skills to respond to severe trauma and stopping a bleed can be highly advantageous for high school students. These abilities not only equip them to effectively emergencies efficiently but also contribute to a safer atmosphere in their schools and communities. Here are some of the topics we cover in this FAST course.

Effective communication during emergencies
When confronted with an urgent or high acuity situation it is imperative to have direct and clear communication with those around us. In this course we will go over methods of communication that can bring calm to chaos by going over effective ways to take charge and communicate in emergency situations.

How to recognize and treat shock
Recognizing shock and how to treat it is a vital first aid skill that can help benefit outcomes in trauma situations. It is an essential part of treating trauma and is covered in this FAST course

Stopping a Bleed
There are three different types of bleeds, and each has a specific method in how we approach active bleeding. We will cover the different ways and effective measures in stopping a bleed, including proper use of tourniquets.
